Discussion Board Forum 1 Replies: The State of Globalization
BUSI 360 Contemporary Issues in International Business, Discussion Board Forum 1 Replies
Thread by [Student Name]
The two classmates and their threads are composites; the textbook and research cited are real.
Reply to Logan
Logan, your thread argued that tariffs protect American manufacturing jobs, and your concern for the factory workers in towns hit by import competition is well founded; the course reader documents how unevenly globalization's costs fell (Maidment, 2013).
The 2018 tariffs suggest, though, that protection came at a high price. Fajgelbaum et al. (2020) studied the trade war in detail and found that the tariffs showed up almost entirely in what U.S. buyers. After counting tariff revenue and gains to protected producers, the net effect on U.S. real income was a modest loss, and retaliatory tariffs from trading partners fell heavily on agricultural counties. Jobs protected in one sector were partly offset by losses in others, including manufacturers that relied on imported steel and parts as inputs and suddenly faced higher costs than foreign competitors. In your view, would targeted support for affected workers, such as retraining, achieve your goal at lower cost?
Reply to Renee
Renee, your thread argued that the pandemic proved companies should bring all production home, and the shortages you described were real disruptions. The course reader also notes how fragile long supply chains can be (Maidment, 2013).
Bringing everything home may not maximize resilience, however, and it can make a firm more exposed to shocks at home. Grossman et al. (2023) built a model of resilient supply chains showing that the answer depends on where shocks come from: domestic production faces its own disruptions, and spreading suppliers across several countries can reduce the chance that one shock stops everything. Their model also showed that forcing production home is not necessarily better than spreading it across countries. A company might keep some production at home and spread the rest. A nearby partner such as Mexico can also shorten shipping times while keeping costs below domestic levels, which combines some of the benefits of both approaches. Which parts of the supply chain you described would you bring home first, and which would you spread across other countries?

What the BUSI 360 Week 2 instructions ask
Module/Week 2 is a review module/week for Unit 1 of Maidment, with a presentation, the Forum 1 replies and the submission of a research paper topic for instructor approval. The research topic earns no points, but nothing else in the research project can begin until it is approved. The replies, worth 60 points, go to two classmates. Each is a substantial response of at least 150 words in college-level writing, contains at least two citations and, like the thread, is expected to reference the assigned videos. Because the threads in this forum debated whether globalization is ending, replies can test classmates' claims about tariffs, jobs and supply chains against research.
How this BUSI 360 Week 2 example is built
Both replies follow the same shape: name the classmate's claim, grant what is right about it, add research that complicates it, and close with a question. The first reply brings the most comprehensive study of the 2018 trade war to bear on a claim that tariffs protect jobs, and notes the retaliation farmers faced. The second answers a call to bring all production home with a theoretical model showing when diversification beats reshoring. Each cites two sources, one of them the course reader, which meets the guide's two-citation rule, and each stays somewhat above the 150-word minimum so it can make its point fully. Neither reply repeats the classmate's argument back at length.
BUSI 360 Week 2 grading rubric: where the points go
Replies are graded on whether they are substantial, demonstrate college-level writing, run 150 words or more and carry two or more citations in current APA style, with the assigned materials referenced. A reply that introduces research the classmate did not consider, or tests a claim against evidence, is the kind of substantial contribution the guide describes. Agreement without new content earns little. Because international business topics often carry political views, instructors reward replies that stay with evidence and treat the classmate's view fairly. Each reply must meet the citation and length requirements on its own. Replies that recognize a classmate's strongest evidence before qualifying it read as collegial rather than combative.
BUSI 360 Week 2 help: mistakes that cost points
Read several threads and choose two whose claims you can engage with research. Grant the classmate's strongest point before adding evidence. Use one peer-reviewed study per reply, plus the course reader or an assigned video, to meet the two-citation requirement. Put the finding in your own words and show how it alters the classmate's conclusion. Avoid political language; stay with what the evidence shows. End on a question that gives the classmate somewhere to go. Reach at least 150 words in each reply, and list each reply's references below it in APA format. Use your topic approval request this module/week to test whether enough research exists on the subject you plan to study.

BUSI 360 Week 2 questions, answered
What are the BUSI 360 Forum 1 replies?
A pair of substantial responses to Forum 1 threads, 60 points in Module/Week 2, each 150 or more words with two citations in APA format.
Where can I find a free BUSI 360 Week 2 sample paper?
Here you will find a complete BUSI 360 Week 2 pair of replies on whether tariffs protect jobs and whether reshoring builds resilience. Each reply carries two citations.
Did the 2018 tariffs help the U.S. economy?
A major study found the tariffs were fully passed through to U.S. buyers and, after counting tariff revenue and gains to protected producers, produced a modest net loss in real income.
Is reshoring the best way to make supply chains resilient?
Not always; research suggests diversifying suppliers across several countries can reduce risk more efficiently than moving all production home. Diversifying across countries can help more.
What else is due in BUSI 360 Module/Week 2?
The research paper topic goes to the instructor for approval, worth no points but required before the outline, alongside a review of Unit 1 of Maidment.
