Discussion Board Forum 1 Thread: The State of Globalization
BUSI 360 Contemporary Issues in International Business, Discussion Board Forum 1 Thread
Thread by [Student Name]
The thread answers a composite version of the forum prompt; the textbook, research and Scripture cited are real.
Globalization is not retreating so much as being rearranged: trade is moving away from China toward partners that governments and firms consider safer, while total trade remains high.
The course reader describes globalization as the growing interconnection of national markets through trade, investment and information (Maidment, 2013). For two decades, that interconnection deepened fastest with China. Its costs, however, were concentrated. Autor et al. (2013) found that U.S. local labor markets more exposed to rising Chinese imports suffered larger declines in manufacturing employment, lower wages and higher use of public assistance. Those concentrated losses help explain the political backlash that followed. Consumers everywhere gained from cheaper goods, but the gains were spread thinly while the losses landed on particular towns, and voters in those towns noticed.
The backlash came in the form of tariffs, and the evidence shows who paid. Amiti et al. (2019) found that the 2018 U.S. tariffs were passed almost completely into the prices paid by U.S. importers and consumers, rather than being absorbed by foreign exporters. Tariffs promoted as a tax on foreign producers ended up largely paid by American buyers.
Firms have responded less by retreating than by diversifying. Baldwin and Freeman (2022) reviewed research on supply chain risk and argued that shocks such as the pandemic and trade conflicts have led firms to reconsider concentration in a single supplier country, although the evidence suggests diversification is costly and gradual. This is why trade with Mexico, Vietnam and India has grown even as trade with China has slowed. Some of that growth may simply reroute Chinese inputs through third countries, so the rearrangement may be shallower than headline trade figures suggest.
Scripture records that after Babel, the Lord dispersed the peoples across the face of the earth (English Standard Version Bible, 2001/2016, Genesis 11:8-9). Nations have always been distinct, and today's rearrangement reminds businesses that political borders still shape markets. For an international manager, the practical lesson is to plan for a world of regional blocs and shifting tariffs rather than one unified global market.

What the BUSI 360 Week 1 instructions ask
Unit 1 of Maidment's Annual Editions reader, with its overview and articles 1 through 3, 5 and 6, plus a presentation, frame the first forum, posted in Module/Week 1 with the Course Requirements Checklist and class introductions. The thread runs at least 300 words of college-level writing and must include no fewer than four references, cited in the text and recapped at the bottom of the thread in current APA format; students are also expected to reference the assigned videos. In Module/Week 2 students reply to two classmates, each reply at least 150 words with two citations. The guide lets students choose between two prompts, A or B, for each forum, and the thread is worth 60 points.
How this BUSI 360 Week 1 example is built
The opening sentence takes a position between the two common views, that globalization is ending and that nothing has changed. The second paragraph uses the course reader to frame globalization as the growing interconnection of markets. Three studies then make the argument in order: the China shock explains the political backlash, the 2018 tariff research shows what the backlash cost American buyers, and the supply chain review explains why firms are diversifying rather than retreating. A brief paragraph on Genesis 11 adds a biblical perspective. The four references appear at the bottom of the thread in APA format, as the guide requires.
BUSI 360 Week 1 grading rubric: where the points go
A BUSI 360 thread earns its points by answering prompt A or B with the module's readings and videos, writing at a college level, clearing 300 words and naming four references both in the sentences that use them and in a list under the post, formatted in APA style. Instructors favor threads that back a clear claim with evidence about a current issue rather than summarizing articles one by one. A thread that recognizes competing interpretations and explains why it favors one demonstrates the kind of analysis the course is meant to develop. Accurate reporting of research findings matters, especially on contested topics like trade.
BUSI 360 Week 1 help: mistakes that cost points
Choose the prompt you can answer with the strongest evidence, and state your answer in the first sentence. Read the assigned Annual Editions articles and connect at least one to your argument. Find peer-reviewed research in economics or international business journals through the Jerry Falwell Library to reach the four-reference minimum, and avoid relying only on news coverage. Present each study's finding in a sentence and link it to your claim. Address the opposing view briefly. List all four references at the bottom of the thread in current APA format. Proofread for college-level writing before posting. If the prompt offers two options, A or B, choose the one where you can find stronger peer-reviewed evidence, not the one that sounds easier.
