BUSI 414 Week 2 Discussion Board Forum 1 Replies Example

Reviewed by Thomas Kerrigan, MBA, CPA · Liberty University · Updated

In this BUSI 414 Week 2 sample, two classmates' posts on project success each get a researched reply. One reply addresses a classmate who saw the project charter as paperwork to finish quickly, using the PMBOK Guide's account of what a charter authorizes to show why a vague one causes trouble later. The second addresses a classmate's view that a good project manager can lead any project the same way, drawing on research that matched leadership competencies to project types and found that the best style depends on the project. Liberty University BUSI 414 values these replies on project success at 50 points, equal to the thread, in this BS in Business Administration project course.

Discussion Board Forum 1 Replies: What Makes a Project Successful

BUSI 414 Project Management I, Discussion Board Forum 1 Replies

Thread by [Student Name]

The two classmates and their threads are composites; the PMBOK Guide and the research cited are real, and the structure follows Liberty's public course guide for BUSI 414.

Reply to Hannah

Why this part earns its pointsThe first reply explains what a charter authorizes, which answers the classmate's view of it as paperwork.
2

Hannah, I agree that a charter should not take weeks to write, but treating it as paperwork can cost a project later. According to the Project Management Institute (2017), the charter is what officially launches a project and empowers its manager to use the organization's resources. It also records the high-level requirements, success criteria and sponsor. When those are vague, the project manager has to negotiate authority and scope informally, project by project and meeting by meeting. A one-page charter that names the sponsor, the business need and two or three measurable success criteria would take an afternoon and could save weeks of argument. It also gives the project manager something to point to when a new request arrives that the sponsor never approved. Who do you think should sign the charter in your example?

Reply to Victor

Why this part earns its pointsThe second reply qualifies the classmate's claim with research on leadership and project type.
3

Victor, your point that strong communication helps any project manager is well taken. Research suggests, though, that the rest of the leadership style should fit the project. Müller and Turner (2007) surveyed project managers and found that different leadership competencies were associated with success on different kinds of projects, varying with factors such as application area, complexity and contract type. In the spirit of that finding, a manager leading a well-defined construction job might lean on planning and control, while one leading an uncertain software project might need more emotional skill to keep a team adapting as requirements change. That suggests organizations should match managers to projects rather than assume any capable manager fits all of them, and that managers should widen their range deliberately over a career. Which type of project do you think suits your own style?

What the BUSI 414 Week 2 instructions ask

Module/Week 2 has no new reading beyond a presentation, and its graded work is the Forum 1 replies, worth 50 points. Students reply to at least two classmates' threads with replies of at least 100 words each. Because the instructor wants critical discussion, a strong reply pushes or tests the classmate's argument rather than agreeing with it. Although the syllabus requires outside research only for threads, citing a source in a reply in current APA format makes the contribution more substantial. With no other assignments due, the module/week is also a good time to start gathering sources for Part 2 of the paper, due in Module/Week 3.

How this BUSI 414 Week 2 example is built

Each reply engages one claim in a classmate's thread and adds a source. The first explains what the PMBOK Guide says a charter does, formally authorizing the project and giving the project manager authority, and shows the consequence of treating it as a formality. The second introduces a study of project managers' leadership competencies across project types to qualify the claim that one style fits every project. Both replies acknowledge the classmate's point, make one addition and close with a question. Each stays well above the 100-word minimum while focusing on a single idea, so the reply reads as a contribution rather than a summary. Neither reply simply praises the thread or repeats it.

BUSI 414 Week 2 grading rubric: where the points go

Replies are graded on their substance and critical thinking, the 100-word minimum and the number of replies, at least two. Replies that test or build on a classmate's argument with evidence earn the most, which is why a cited source strengthens a reply even though the syllabus requires research only in threads. Simply agreeing or restating the thread earns little. Correct use of project management terms, such as charter, sponsor and project type, shows command of the reading. Early replies give classmates a chance to answer, which deadline replies do not, and a respectful tone matters when a reply disagrees with a classmate. Clean grammar and correct APA format also count. Clean writing helps.

BUSI 414 Week 2 help: mistakes that cost points

Look through the threads for two where you can contribute something specific. Name the classmate's claim, then add a source or example that extends or qualifies it. Give each reply a single idea and let it run well past 100 words. Cite in current APA format and include a reference list. End with a question to invite a response. Use the lighter module/week to begin reading for the annotated bibliography in Part 2. If you reply to more than two classmates, make each reply substantial rather than adding short ones, since quality counts more than quantity in the instructor's grading. Check spelling of classmates' names.
