What NURS 839 covers
The course reads Moran, Burson and Conrad's The Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project and Roush's A Nurse's Step-by-Step Guide to Writing Your Dissertation or Capstone, with the program's Scholarly Project Guide. CITI human subjects training and two SPSS assignments are completed along the way.
Proposal assignments follow the instructions and templates in the course site, building section by section from the evidence table in Module/Week 2 to the introduction and literature review, the methodology, the full proposal in Module/Week 7 and the defense PowerPoint in Module/Week 8.
This course is designed to apply the knowledge and skills developed in previous research and related coursework and apply them to the Scholarly Project process. Students will be required to apply scholarly writing skills and an understanding of expectations of the scholarly project to develop a scholarly proposal. Students will be guided through the development of a Scholarly Project proposal and must successfully defend the proposal at the end of the course. At the completion of this course, CITI training and all Scholarly Project tutorials must be completed.

Where NURS 839 papers lose points
Work in NURS 839 loses points when an article critique summarizes instead of appraising, when levels of evidence are assigned inconsistently, when the methodology cannot answer the PICOT question, when statistics are reported without interpretation and when the defense slides repeat the paper instead of presenting the argument.
Using a NURS 839 sample well
Read each sample for how a single project question is carried through every section of a proposal. Your own project will differ; the samples show the structure, evidence and level of detail each section requires.
