What COUC 546 covers
Forums fall in Modules/Weeks 1, 2 and 5, each a thread of at least 400 words with an APA citation and two replies; the third forum reports a harmless public activity designed to show how people with mental disorders are treated.
Case studies of 3 to 4 pages fall in Modules/Weeks 3, 6 and 8, and the research paper moves from a topic rationale and annotated bibliography to an outline and a 12-to-14-page final paper in Module/Week 7.
This course studies psychological disorders and normalcy across the lifespan. Students are prepared to responsibly and competently assess, diagnose, conceptualize, and counsel clients as defined by the Diagnostic Statistical Manual classification system. Concepts and constructs, assessment processes, etiology, cultural factors, differential diagnosis, decisions-making, and evidence-based therapeutic approaches are emphasized. Clinical and scientific research is integrated through the course with a biblical worldview so that students will have a robust biopsychosocialspiritual lens to understand and treat mental disorders.

Where COUC 546 papers lose points
COUC 546 papers lose points when diagnoses are named without matching criteria to the case, when no alternative diagnosis is ruled out, when treatment plans skip the spiritual or social domain, when counselors overstep by deciding medical causes or medication, and when the research paper copies the manual instead of paraphrasing it.
