Gloria, your story of the physician who wrote "cardiac arrest" as the only cause of death for a hospice patient with metastatic lung cancer shows how a routine public duty can be done carelessly. Cardiac arrest describes how every death ends, not why it happened. The certificate should have traced the chain from the immediate cause, perhaps respiratory failure, back through the conditions that led to it to the underlying disease, the lung cancer that started the sequence. Wellesley (2026) argues that inaccurate cause of death statements harm more than records: they distort mortality statistics that guide public health and misrepresent the deceased person's illness and life story to the family. Millares Martin et al. (2023) surveyed general practitioners and medical examiners in England and found common errors, including missing time frames, absent comorbidities, wrong underlying causes and incorrect sequences of events, and quality below international standards even after a new medical examiner system began.
Judson and Harrison (2016) treat completing the death certificate as one of the physician's public duties, and this week's chapter on death and dying reminds us that the record is also the family's last official account. Your hospice could help by giving physicians a short guide showing how to list the chain of causes from the immediate cause back to the underlying disease. Because hospice staff know the patient's history well, a nurse could also offer the certifying physician a brief summary of diagnoses when the death occurs. A death certificate is the last record a patient's care team writes, and it deserves the same accuracy as the first. Does your organization review death certificates before they are filed?
Reply to Darnell
Darnell, you wrote that your clinic sometimes reports positive chlamydia and gonorrhea results to the health department weeks late, or not at all, because staff fax forms when they have time. That problem is long-standing. Doyle et al. (2002) reviewed studies of notifiable disease reporting in the United States and found that completeness varied widely by disease, with AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases and tuberculosis reported more completely than most other conditions. Even so, many cases never reached public health. Dixon et al. (2020) tested a health information exchange that sent clinics prepopulated electronic report forms in Indiana. Reporting rates for chlamydia rose from 56.9% to 66.4% in intervention clinics and fell in control clinics, and completeness improved for several conditions.
Judson and Harrison (2016) explain that reporting communicable diseases is a legal duty that protects the public, even when it means sharing information patients consider private. Late reports delay partner notification and allow infections to spread. For chlamydia and gonorrhea, which often cause no symptoms, a partner who is never notified may carry the infection for months and pass it on, so a reporting delay in one clinic can affect many people outside it. Your clinic might ask the health department whether electronic case reporting is available through your record system, which could make reporting automatic rather than dependent on staff time. Even before that, assigning one staff member to send reports daily, with a backup, would end the problem of reports waiting until someone has time. Who is currently responsible for reporting in your clinic?

What the BUSI 302 Week 8 instructions ask
The replies for Discussion Board Forum 3 close out BUSI 302 in Module/Week 8, the final week, which ends on Friday and also includes Judson and Harrison's chapters 11 and 12, two presentations, the last Connect homework and the fourth quiz. A reply must pass the 250-word mark and lean on two outside scholarly sources of its own, in APA form. Since those threads were posted two weeks earlier on public duties, reread them carefully before replying, and look for links to the week's chapters on the beginning of life, childhood, death and dying, which connect naturally to duties such as certifying deaths.
How this BUSI 302 Week 8 example is built
The first reply names the classmate's concern about a death certificate that listed only cardiac arrest, explains what a cause of death statement is supposed to show and uses two recent articles to explain why accuracy matters to families and to mortality statistics. It suggests a simple way a hospice could help physicians complete certificates. The second reply takes up a classmate's account of late infection reporting, presents evidence on how incomplete reporting has been and how prepopulated electronic forms improved it and suggests both a quick fix and a longer-term one. Each reply ends by asking the classmate about the process at their workplace.
BUSI 302 Week 8 grading rubric: where the points go
Final-week replies in BUSI 302 are generally graded on reaching 250 words, supporting each with a pair of outside scholarly studies, responding to the case the classmate actually described, adding analysis or evidence and writing clearly in APA style. In this forum, faculty look for an accurate understanding of what each public duty requires and why society imposes it on health professionals. Replies that suggest a realistic administrative improvement show the healthcare administration perspective the course builds. Short or generic replies posted at the last minute lose points, so plan around the Friday close and leave time to find sources that fit each classmate's case. Replies that tie a public duty to the week's chapters on birth and death show that the student kept reading to the end.
BUSI 302 Week 8 help: mistakes that cost points
Reread your classmates' threads from Module/Week 6 and choose two where you can add a law, a study or a practical solution. Restate their point in a sentence, then add evidence from two scholarly sources in each reply, choosing different sources for the two. Connect the duty to the patient, the public and the organization, and offer one improvement an administrator could make, with who would do it. Post before the last module/week ends late on Friday, since the usual Monday deadline does not apply, and check that each reply is above 250 words before submitting. A reply that ends with a workable next step for the classmate's organization usually earns the strongest marks.

BUSI 302 Week 8 questions, answered
What is due in BUSI 302 Module/Week 8?
Two replies for Discussion Board Forum 3, each at least 250 words backed by a pair of outside scholarly sources, along with the last Connect homework and the fourth quiz.
Where can I find a free BUSI 302 Week 8 sample paper?
The two BUSI 302 Week 8 replies, one on death certificate accuracy and one on reporting infections, appear here in full with their sources at no cost.
Why does an accurate cause of death matter?
It shapes mortality statistics and public health priorities, and it tells families what really happened; vague entries such as cardiac arrest describe the mode of dying, not the cause.
Are clinics required to report infectious diseases?
Yes. Each state publishes a list of notifiable conditions that clinicians and laboratories must report to public health authorities, along with deadlines that range from immediately to within a week.
When does BUSI 302 Module/Week 8 end?
Unlike the earlier weeks, which run through Monday night, the last module/week shuts at midnight Eastern on Friday, so both replies should go up well before then.
